The famous 18th century fountain covered with a thick layer of moss.

Located near the historic centre of Salon-de-Provence, in front of our hotel and on the square commonly known as "Place de la Fontaine Moussue ", the Mossy Fountain is a must-see sight in the city and almost its mascot. The hotel has a privileged location facing the the Fountain and the Tour de l'Horloge and offers an exceptional view of the upper basin of the fountain from many rooms.

Brief history:

It was a fountain, topped by two basins, and was used as a drinking trough for the herds in transhumance; today it adorns the square that used to be called "Place des Arbres", where it is nice to enjoy the shadows or the bars and theirs terraces.

It is known that it already existed in the 18th century, but it was only in the second half of the 20th century that limestone concretions were deposited to the point of welding the two basins together.

The moss and vegetation have grown on top of the fountain, and a bizarrely large green mushroom can be seen planted in the fountain. During harsh winters, stalactites form when it freezes.
