SPORT AND NATURE

The ornithological park of Pont de Gau

The ornithological park of Pont de Gau, is a nice opportunity to go for a walk and at the same time to take advantage of the beauty offered by the world of free birds, all year round.

On 60 hectares of ponds, marshes, lawns, reed beds... the ornithological park of Pont de Gau offers its

observatories and footpaths accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs, to get up close to most of the bird species of Camargue.

There are several circuits to choose from, up to 7 km.

Among the species usually on the site: pink flamingos (hundreds), herons, storks, egrets, teals, birds of prey...

Upon reservation, an ornithologist guides small groups.

Open every day of the year, except 25 December.

Colorado Provençal
Flamboyant walk in the Colorado Provençal

Go for a hike and admire the breathtaking view of the ochre to orange-red shades that the park bears.

At the end of the path, the grandeur of the open-air site opens its arms to you with a palette of 20 shades of ochre.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Rustrel lived to the rhythm of the iron industry and then the ochre industry from 1871.

This activity has shaped the site over nearly 4 km.

You will immediately be struck by the beauty of this landscape of the American West, full of reliefs: fairies, cliffs, peaks and promontories. At times, the landscape is lunar...

Magical and atypical, it is regularly used as a film set.

Budget: From 5 to 12 euros

Parking: Paying

Route map

The Routo route

Routo, in Occitan, means transhumance path. This route followed the large flocks of sheep that used to travel 540 kilometres from the Crau plains to the Stura valley in Italy in three weeks.

The idea of "La Routo" is to reactivate these paths, which have been abandoned for some fifty years, and to rehabilitate them as a long-distance hiking trail, with stopover gîtes, signposting and a topographical guide.

33 stages starting from Arles, in the Rhône delta and the Crau plain, passing through the Var, the itinerary reaches the Alpes de Haute Provence via Gréoux-les-Bains, the Valensole plateau, Digne-les-Bains, Seyne-les-Alpes and Barcelonnette to continue to the Larche pass, and continues into Italy to Cuneo, in the Valle Stura.
